Earlier this week, Chrysler promised us it would be unveiling a production model before the NY auto show. The big event was held today and the automaker introduced the 2011 Dodge Charger, Mopar Edition. Equipped with select, performance-enhancing Mopar parts, only 1000 units will be built (900 for the US and 100 for Canada).

The beefy 370-hp, 5.7-litre V8 HEMI includes the Super Trac Pac option that bumps maximum torque up to 395 ft-lb, and output and shifting are enhanced by a specially calibrated engine controller.

Acceleration is improved thanks to a 3.91:1 final drive ratio, which allows the car to leap from 0 to 100 km/h in under five seconds.

Sure it’s fast, but the Charger has to be able to stay on the road too. That’s where the new stabilizer bars come in, 30 mm up front and 20 mm round back, as well the cross-car braces added at the front and rear shock towers, which can be removed if you need more storage space.

The brakes also play a crucial role when it comes to handling, and they haven’t been overlooked here either. To stop the 20-inch wheels shod in Goodyear 245/45ZR20 tires, the Mopar Charger counts on four vented discs squeezed by dual-piston callipers.

The Pitch Black body is set off by two Mopar Blue racing stripes running from the front air dam to the rear bumper, while the cabin is highlighted by leather seats, multiple Mopar logos and a special edition plate.

Built in Brampton, Ontario, the Mopar Charger will feature an MSRP of 39,750 USD.
